Everything you need to know before you come and stay with us

Thuma House is a self-catering accommodation with a chef onsite to prepare and cook your meals to your preference. The Kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, utensils & serving ware. There is one house assistant and one gardener on the premises to make your stay more relaxing, in true ‘Malawian self-catering’ fashion. A BBQ/Braai is available in the garden.

    Ice is made daily and provided in the kitchen freezer for your use

    There are two fridge freezers for your use and one small bar fridge in the main house

    We have placed some indoor and outdoor games for your enjoyment

  • All your own food & drinks, condiments, spices, cooking oil, tea and coffee if you have a particular preference, sugar, bin liners, serviettes and charcoal if you intend to braai.

  • Hiking shoes, torch, binoculars, bird-book, swimwear & sunblock, toiletries, insect repellent

  • The house has two large en-suite bedrooms, each with its own private khonde and comfortable bed made with crisp linen sheets.

    The rooms can be fitted with additional beds to accommodate children. In total, the house can accommodate eight people (four adults and four children).

    The large en-suite bathrooms are open to the African sky, overlooking the giant baobab trees, and feature solar-powered hot water showers.

  • We provide borehole water, which is clean, fresh and suitable for drinking. Should you prefer bottled water, you will also need to bring this with you.

  • Kaphulika house operates on a small solar system. The system allows for solar-heated geysers, solar lighting as well as charging points for small devices.

  • There is no municipal waste disposal system available to us. Therefore, we kindly ask you to bring bin liners so that you can remove your rubbish on your departure, including empty glass and plastic bottles. Our team will assist you with this process.

  • Thuma House provides ecofriendly accommodation, promoting sustainable living that reconnects people with nature. Our sustainable practice is ecofriendly with 100% renewable energy, water usage conservation and locally sourced materials. 

    We have deep partnerships with local communities and all profits from the house go towards supporting local community and conservation projects.

  • Thuma is a protected area and home to a variety of wildlife large and small.

    Please do not leave the house/garden area without a guide. A guide can be prearranged, please do express your interest upon booking if you would like to take part in any of our activities. Self-driving in the park is not permitted.

    Please do not feed or approach any wildlife or leave food out and about that would entice scavenging animals who could become a problem for the house and its residents.

    Smoking is not permitted inside the house, please use the outside areas safely away from the thatch roof.
