The Challenge

Our forest reserves face a large number of serious challenges which pose a huge threat to the survival of wildlife and the existence of the ecosystem as a whole.

Poaching is defined as any illegal activity within the protected area, such as hunting and capturing wild animals, and the removal and destruction of forest product. If unaddressed, this threatens to have a major rapid and potentially irreversible negative effect on the value and services provided by the reserves.

Examples of challenges include:

Deforestation

Firewood Collecting

Illegal Fishing

Hunting for Bushmeat

Plank Cutting

Illegal Charcoal Manufacturing

Illegal Mining

Snares

Pit Traps

Spoon & Hoe Handle Making

Ivory Trade

Poisoning of Waterbodies
