Research & Development

The recording and monitoring of plants and animals is essential for our conservation and management effort.

Rangers record wildlife sightings on a daily basis while out on patrols. This data is mapped to help us learn more about animal movements, distribution patterns, diversity and new species.

We also use technology from Save the Elephants and Vulcan to collar and track elephant herds to further understand their behaviour. This technology is becoming increasingly critical in the protection of this endangered species, as well as many others, across Africa.

There are a variety of other research methods we use to document the reserves’ incredible biodiversity and uncover fundamental requirements of our habitats in order to provide better protection:

  • Biennial Animal Count

  • Camera Trapping

  • Biodiversity logs

  • Carbon Sink Surveys

  • Elephant ID

  • Orchid Surveys
